Trump nets a semi spot after victory
Keynsham snooker player Judd Trump has qualified for next weekend's PartyCasino.com Premier League semi-finals.
Trump, the world No 30, needed a draw or better over Shaun Murphy at the Cymru Centre in Llandudno to make sure of his place in the business end of this year's £200,000 Sky-broadcast tournament.
And the 20-year-old, who spends half of his week practising at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield, secured his place in the next phase with fine 4-2 victory over Murphy, the world No 3 and former world champion.
"It's great to have got through to the semi-finals," reflected Trump. "I can't really have asked for much more in my first season in the competition."
Trump has already won £24,000 in the group stages, as well as a further £5,000 for reaching the semi-finals.
And the left-hander's prize-pot could swell to as much as £54,000, with £30,000 on offer to this year's champion. The runner-up is set to pocket £15,000.
"The money's nice, but I really want to win this competition now," added Trump.
"It's not going to be easy, but I've got nothing to lose. I'm into the semi-finals and I'm going to give it my best shot."
Having finished second Trump will now face defending champion Ronnie O'Sullivan – who has won the competition for the last five seasons and on eight occasions in total– in the semis at Potters Leisure Resort in Hopton on Sea, Norfolk, on Saturday, November 28.
"I can't wait for the match," said Trump, who upset the Rocket 4-2 in their group clash earlier this month.
Meanwhile, Murphy will lock horns with group winner John Higgins, the current world champion, in this year's other semi-final.
The semi-final winners will then face each other in the showcase final a day later at the same venue.
