Trollope salutes slick Rovers
PAUL Trollope was full of praise for his Bristol Rovers side
after a 4-0 win in Malmo last night.
-

Young striker Josh Klein-Davies scored all four goals as
Rovers brushed aside the challenge of MABI, who worked hard but
failed to trouble a Rovers defence well marshalled by central
defenders Craig Hinton and Byron Anthony.
“Josh managed to get four goals, in what was a good team
display,” said head coach Trollope.
“It was a very good work-out for us and some of the younger
players, as well as some of the other senior players, got 90
minutes under their belt. In addition, it's always a good thing
to get a clean sheet, and we achieved that comfortably.
“Our opponents were probably made to look worse than they
were, as they were very good technically and had a bit of pace
up front. But we looked fit and strong and passed the ball very
well, which was pleasing.
“MABI made us work hard, which is what we wanted, but their
threat was nullified very well by Craig and Byron, who look to
be reaching full fitness.”
There was a return to action for Ryan Green, whose previous
start in a Rovers shirt had been against Swindon last
November.
Trollope added: “It was good to see Ryan back in the side,
as it was a worrying time for him last season, with the
operation on his Achilles.
“We are delighted to see him back and, as always, his
quality shone through and he seemed to get back in the groove
easily, and produced an assured display.
Trollope also praised the younger members of the squad.
He added: “Tom Parrinello, James Fraser and, obviously Josh,
coped very well on the night. You never know how players will
perform in different surroundings, but they all did very
well.
“It was a good exercise and to score four goals, and for
Josh to get them all, was very good.”
The opening stages of the game were a bit frantic, but both
sides tried to play a passing game on a perfect playing
surface.
However, neither goalkeeper was called into serious action,
though Mike Green did clatter central defender Anthony as he
came out for a cross. The Wales Under-21 defender was able to
continue after treatment from physio Phil Kite.
There were a couple of half-chances for Rovers, but Andy
Williams saw his shot inadvertently blocked by Klein-Davies and
Sean Rigg fired a shot over the crossbar.
Klein-Davies gave Rovers the lead in the 19th minute after
he raced on to Ryan Green's pass before rifling an unstoppable
shot past Edon Gashi.
Sohan Akesson hit a shot over the crossbar shortly
afterwards. Williams also went close to increasing the lead,
but was denied by a Gashi, who dived at his feet to cut out the
danger.
Then, on the half-hour, Fraser hit a shot just over the bar
after playing a one-two with Green.
Klein-Davies, who is due to link up with the Wales Under-19
squad in Manchester tomorrow, scored his second goal of the
evening on 59 minutes when he headed home a Williams cross from
close range.
The striker added two more goals in the closing stages. He
netted with an 80th-minute shot into the top corner, and
knocking in his fourth goal of the evening from a Chris Lines
cross from the right, with seven minutes left.

“Well done young Josh, and all the other young uns. I got a message from someone who was at the game last night and he said that young James Fraiser looked exceptional. Have been hearing great things about this young lad, look out for him this season, an absolute gem was his percise words!”

“Once again Jeff Dunsford financed squad do the business. The Queen really should recognise what he has done to save the Gas, buy them a ground and putting his hand in his pocket once again to finance this fine squad. Up the gas, come on you blues.”
