Dozens of floral tributes have been left by friends and relatives at the scene of a crash which claimed the life of a Bristol woman.

Candles and photographs of the woman who died, named by friends as Donna Mitchell, have been left at the spot near the junction of Bedminster Down Road and Winterstoke Road where a Rover ZR160 car hit a wall at about 12.40am on Sunday.

As reported by the Bristol Post on Monday, the 26-year-old driver was thrown from the car. She was taken to Frenchay Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

A passenger escaped with minor injuries.

Friends who arrived to pay tribute yesterday said the woman who died, who lived in Knowle, had an eight-year-old daughter and was engaged to be married.

One woman viewing the tributes, who said she was a friend, said: "Donna was a fun-loving girl who was always smiling. She always looked a million dollars – she was absolutely gorgeous."

One message attached to a bouquet of flowers read: "Still can't believe this has happened. Life is so cruel to take away such a great sister and auntie. You were very special to us and still are."

Another, signed Dodge, read: "I'm so sorry I never got to give you the wedding we talked about. I will always remember you. I love you so much."

Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time to call the collisions investigations unit on 0845 456 7000.

You can pay tribute to Donna Mitchell at our Lasting Tribute website.

“What a tribute all her friends going out on Bank Holiday Sunday having a drink for Donna.
What a shame a minority was looking for trouble..and threatning people...you can understand grief and anger but to threaten innocent girls is not the way to act. I wouldn't call her a good freind. She should be ashamed of herself for acting that way , when they were out having a drink for Donna.”

“We are trying to set up a local parental support group and have a few projects already in mind, including one to ensure that parents can send their kids to prom in style.

Its going to be a non profit scheme where we get donations of time, dresses, accessories and equipment, secure hairdressing, make up and nail stylists.

Any money we do raise could be donated to the fundraising for Donna's family.

I think it would be such a nice and fitting memorial for this bright, glamourous fun loving young mother.

I did not have the pleasure of meeting Donna, but am involving many of her friends in this project. I am looking for support both emotional and practical, in fact, I would love for Donna's friends, family and community to take this project on and make it all about her. If it could be run as a yearly project then it would be a continuing memorial to such an energetic and well loved person.”

“Anon - I did not imply that that Donna deserved to die, I think it is so tragic and has had a huge effect on all her loved ones. As this is the comments section, not tribute page, I was merely trying to establish whether or not she was wearing a seat belt so that hopefully everyone can realise the horrific consequences of not wearing one. Too many people (young and old) think it is uncool to wear a seat belt and, as Brian so rightly said 'The truth is, wearing a seatbelt is a life saver'. I did not intend to offend anyone.”
