Marcus Trescothick smashed an unbeaten 66 as Somerset fought back strongly in the final session on day two of the LV County Championship Division One match against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.

The visitors trailed by 123 runs on first innings, after the hosts posted 261 with the help of knocks of 63 from Adam Voges and Ali Brown, Charl Willoughby taking five wickets for 81 runs.

But by the close, Somerset CCC were 137 for three, 14 runs in front. Skipper Justin Langer (26 not out) was also still there at the close.

Nottinghamshire resumed the day on 55 for three and Willoughby struck in his first over, Bilal Shafayat gloving behind without adding to his overnight total of 19.

Voges and Brown put on 119 for the fifth wicket. However, Voges became Willoughby's fourth victim as he was adjudged leg before wicket to an inswinger. Brown followed eight runs later, driving Peter Trego to James Hildreth at cover.

Mark Ealham (five) came and went quickly as he pushed at a ball which nipped away and Langer took the catch.

Andre Adams joined skipper Chris Read to put on a rapid 42 for the eighth wicket before he was bowled by Trego.

Ryan Sidebottom and Read were dismissed in quick succession to bring an end to the innings.
