Treble blast paves way for Avon win
All the goals came in the first 25 minutes as Avon Athletic B Under-13s thrashed Bristol City JSC 6-1 in a clash between Division II's top sides.
Avon surged ahead from the off, finding the net three times in as many minutes. Dan Davison opened the scoring with a great strike, followed by goals from Connor Matthews and Hugo Burton.
City pulled one back after seven minutes through a great Joe Griffiths' effort but Avon were soon back in charge, increasing their lead through Rory Langdon, Burton again and Lewis Thompson Quance to go into the interval 6-1 up.
The second half was a more even affair, with both teams having breakaway opportunities and using the wings to good advantage, but neither side could find the net again.
Yate Rangers A won for the fourth time away from home as they overcame Whitchurch Sports 3-0 in another Division II clash.
The first goal came when a corner from Andrew Jenkins was not cleared and Luke Nutland volleyed the loose ball into the roof of the net.
Yate goalkeeper Ryan Carter only had to make one notable save, while at the other end substitute Jack Heaven provided a superb defence-splitting pass for Jenkins to run on to and finish coolly.
The third goal came when a scramble in the Whitchurch area ended with Yate captain Daniel Brown providing the killer touch over the head of the hosts' goalkeeper.
Yate were indebted to the efforts of Kurtis Luke and Mitchell Hale, who were well assisted by Darius Kiedowski, Mikey Jones and substitute Ben Greenaway. Thomas Iles, William Lane and substitutes Jack Dwyer and Connor Giltrow performed impressively while hard-working strikers Jenkins and Heaven were ably supported by Toby Strauss.
Josh Gover, Liam Noble and Declan Cooper all shone for Oldland Abbotonians as they overcame St Nicholas A 3-2 thanks to a fabulous Harry Crew winner.
They took the lead on 17 minutes through a spectacular individual goal by Trevon Morne following good work by Crew. At the other end, John Fox had to make a crucial save with his feet as Oldland held on to their lender lead until the break.
St Nicholas came out all guns blazing in the second and went 2-1 up. But with Zion Duharty coming on as a substitute for Oldland in a wide right position, they took control and Tom Gale teed up Morne to convert the equaliser from six yards.
Gale and Crew both saw shots cleared off the line before Crew fired Oldland's winner with a magnificent 20-yard lob from Olly Sidwick's throw.
Keynsham Town A and Stoke Lane Athletic A fought out a 1-1 draw in an even Division I contest.
Town started brightly and, following a cross from Joe Osborne, Daniel Mackley's shot was well saved by Stoke keeper James McKimm, only for the ball to fall kindly to Kyle Box to put the home team 1-0 up.
Stoke Lane rallied and Josh Rawnsley equalised before half-time, placing his shot beyond Adam Salvage.
Bristol Phoenix fell behind to two quick goals in their Division IV match with Highridge United but recovered to win 6-3.
Adam Rugman pulled one back for Phoenix with a well-taken goal but Highridge scored again to make it 3-1.
Jack Wells struck for Phoenix from close range and Rugman netted his second goal of the game to make it 3-3 at the break.
Phoenix looked far stronger in the second half. Liam Christopher made it 4-3 and man-of-the-match Rugman netted his third of the game – and 38th goal of the season – to give Phoenix a two-goal cushion.
Kane Abrahams sealed the win with a great strike from outside the box to give Phoenix the points they needed to move away from the bottom four.
