Members of a health club will be running for 24 hours in support of a Bristol cancer charity.

Cadbury House Hotel Health Club and Spa will be hosting a treadmill marathon to raise money for research and treatment of the disease in the city.

The sponsored event is being held in support of the Run for the Future, which will be held on the Downs next month.

The 5k run, organised by Bristol Rotarians fundraises for the Bristol Urological Institute (BUI) Prostate Cancer Charity Appeal.

More than 10,000 men in the UK die from the disease every year, but there is no national screening programme available on the NHS.

Money raised by Run for the Future is currently funding joint research between the BUI at Southmead Hospital and the University of the West of England into earlier diagnosis and treatment of the disease.

Members of the health club at Cadbury House Hotel are being asked to cover the 24 hours by volunteering to run for 30 minutes each, starting a 9am on Friday, September 4.

Club manager Jason Eaton hopes the whole of the membership will support those who take part.

He said: "The number of men dying from prostate cancer is on the increase and it's devastating to their families, which is why we're supporting Run for the Future with this treadmill challenge.

"Our members have an opportunity to make a real difference by sponsoring those who take part – and hopefully they'll also take part in the event proper on the Downs a fortnight later."

Cadbury House Hotel is also asking every guest staying at the hotel to put their spare change in special Run for the Future envelopes.

This year's Run for the Future will start at noon on Sunday, September 20. For more information or to register to take part call 0117 959 6328.
