Comment: Transport in Bristol is lagging behind
Anything which provides a genuine alternative to driving into Bristol city centre should be welcomed.
So on that basis alone the plan for a fourth park and ride site is good news.
It will provide an option for people coming in from the northern fringe which they do not have at present.
There is often opposition to the development of park and ride sites.
However no matter where it is built it will not solve our transport problems. And frustratingly it will not open for another four years.
That means it will have taken Bristol 20 years to have built four park and ride sites – and one of those was inherited from the former Avon County Council.
Meanwhile the number of people travelling into Bristol each day has multiplied many times.
The truth is we are a generation behind other cities in developing public transport.
However, there are two further ways we can improve matters. Firstly by forming a transport authority like many other cities have done. And by developing our local rail network.
It is a scandal that so much of it lies underused or abandoned.
