FREE first-aid training sessions are being offered in the Bristol area to ensure people know what to do in an emergency.

Paramedic Chris Parsons is offering the training across the city because all too often he sees people standing around unaware of how they can help in emergencies.

The 31-year-old said: "Every year more than 75,000 people die in the UK from a sudden cardiac arrest, which is when the heart stops pumping blood, containing vital oxygen, around the body. It affects all age groups, from school children to the elderly, and if nothing is done to help, the chances of survival fall at approximately 15 – 20 per cent per minute. On arrival at emergencies I am shocked to see how many people are standing around doing nothing when there are basic techniques they could be employing that could save the patient's life."

Sessions start in Bradley Stoke today, move to Hartcliffe tomorrow, Filton, Patchway then Nailsea.

    “Hello Everyone,

I have been on this course with Chris and it was absolutely fantastic! There are two more sessions that appear to have spaces on the Friday 2nd March 2012 (?). Book a place! I can't tell you how heartwarming it is that someone who spends all day saving lives can use their leisure time helping others save lives. It was very informative and I will be eternally grateful for the knowledge he has given me. I might not ever need to use these skills but knowledge is power and I really hope that one day if I need help that there will be someone who wasn't too scared to help me.

Additionally if you know anyone who would be willing/able to offer sponsorship. Pls get in touch with him.

    Thank you!
    Emma”
