Tours tracing trams route
READERS will no doubt be familiar with George Pine's memoirs as contained in the book Trenches to Trams.
In 1920, George got a job as a tram conductor on route No.3, Eastville to Durdham Down. In May, 1938, the service was replaced by motor buses, but George stayed on with the company until 1946.
On Saturday, as part of the Bristol Festival of Literature, I am organising two tours tracing the route of George's tram and bus route.
Dr Mike Walker from the Bristol Omnibus Vehicle Collection will be driving his lovingly restored 1946 vintage Bristol Bus and Richard Avery from the Bristol Vintage Bus Group will be conducting. The tours, which last 2.5 hours, start from M Shed at 10am and 1pm. They include a stop for a cuppa on The Downs and a visit to Bristol Record Office to see some bus and tram archives.
