Almondsbury Town 1 AFC Totton 4

Almondsbury Town, who found themselves two goals down after nine minutes, were always on the back foot and crashed out of the FA Cup against a classy AFC Totton side.

Richard Thompson, who took over as manager last Wednesday following Paul Weeks' decision to resign and take over as manager of Cinderford Town, found himself without four key players and had no complaints about the result.

"They looked a very good side and, although we got back into the game at times and pulled a goal back to make it 3-1, Totton were generally in charge and thoroughly deserved their victory," Thompson said. Almondsbury finished the game with 10 men, with Simon Gilbert dismissed for a second bookable offence late in the game following a theatrical performance from Totton captain Ross Bottomley.

Almondsbury went a goal down after five minutes when a long ball to the edge of the penalty area from Carl Pettifer gave Nathaniel Sherborne the chance to lob stranded keeper Ben Johns.

Four minutes later, Totton made it 2-0 when a clearance from Johns was played back into the penalty area for Sherborne to easily beat the stranded keeper.

Dean Maynard missed a chance to put Almondsbury back in the game and then Marcus Mapstone brought a good save from Totton keeper Simon Arthin, but as half-time approached, Nathan Jack twice missed chances of increasing Totton's lead.

Just after the hour mark, Totton made it 3-0 through Brett Williams, before Almondsbury pulled a goal back in the 77th minute with a Matt Williams strike.

Totton added a fourth goal with seven minutes remaining through Brett Williams.
