An all-Bristol strike force will be hoping to make their mark in the Southern League Premier Division next season – but for Tiverton Town.

The Devon side have bolstered their ranks with manager Martyn Rogers signing Yate Town's leading goalscorer Dean Griffiths and former Mangotsfield United frontman Dave Morrissey.

Rogers moved quickly to snap up Griffiths, whose 17 goals for Yate, seven more than Aaron Blakemore who has also quit the club, couldn't prevent the Lodge Road outfit from being relegated from the Premier Division.

While he was under contract, 24-year-old Griffiths fell out with new manager Dave Mogg and also received a club fine for playing in a local cup final when he had been denied permission.

Rogers admitted he has been a long-time admirer of the striker's talents.

"He's very quick, hard-working and he will be a good signing for us," said Rogers. "He's good in the air and all-round he is decent. He will cause defences a lot of problems."

Griffiths will play alongside Morrissey, who has opted to make his comeback at Ladysmead after taking a year out of the game after ending the 2007-08 season at Mangotsfield United.

"I have heard about Dean," said Morrissey, who spent last season watching Bristol City in the Championship. "Dean is young and quick and hopefully I can teach him a thing or two as well."

With Blakemore and Griffiths gone, Mogg is working hard to bring in a new striker and is hoping to announce a new signing next week.

Meanwhile, Rogers is relishing the prospect of his Bristolian strikers spearheading his team's promotion challenge in the 2009-10 season.

"With the two I have signed, I'm quite happy with the strike force, they will be good for us," added Rogers.

● Clevedon Town manager Nick Tucker is looking for a new assistant after Matthew Bishop accepted an offer to join Blue Square South side Newport County.

"Newport boss Dean Holdsworth made him an offer after working with him on a UEFA coaching course and it was a great temptation for him," said Tucker.

"I'm disappointed, but these things happen in football and now I am working hard to get someone new in."

There was some good news for Tucker this week as he completed the signing of 29-year-old central midfielder Ellis Wilmot, who played for Mangotsfield United last season.

"We are a young side so we needed someone with experience and Ellis has plenty of that at this level of football," said Tucker.

Tucker has also secured midfielder Craig Loxton on a contract for next season, while club captain Chris Collins has been signed on a 12-month contract – though he is unlikely to play again before Christmas due to injury.

● Mangotsfield United manager Phil Bater announced his third new signing this week with central defender Rob Scott returning to the club from Bitton.

Scott joins fellow Bitton player Matt Knapman and ex-Yate Town goalkeeper Tony Court in moving to Cossham Street following the club's relegation from the Premier Division.
