Title-chasers Mendip squeeze home
Bristol Premier Combination: Mendip United took another step towards lifting the Premier Division title at the first attempt, after scraping home 2-1 against Wick at Filwood.
The leaders went in front with a crisp drive from Dean Maggs and Mark Liddell headed the second before the break. The visitors improved in the second half and took control after Mendip keeper Ashley Pope turned the ball into his own net during a goalmouth scramble.

The Mendip defence survived heavy pressure as Wick pushed forward in search of an equaliser in the closing stages.
"It really was a game of two halves. We were on top before the break but were hanging on in the end," said Mendip manager Richard O'Connor.
Pucklechurch remain six points behind in second place after a 2-1 home victory against Brimsham Green, for whom Dan Fell made a promising debut in goal.
Fell had no chance of stopping a well-struck penalty from John Wiltshire, who was fouled just inside the area, but Rashid Baptise soon equalised following a long throw from Mark Willis. Both teams missed chances before midfielder Wiltshire netted his 15th goal of the season in the 87th minute to end Brimsham's hopes of a point.
Pucklechurch joint-manager Tom Hartry was relieved to get a result but Brimsham's secretary Phil Martin felt that his side deserved a draw in their battle to avoid the drop.
A last-gasp penalty from John Miles sealed a 2-1 home success for South Bristol Central against Highridge Reserves, who stay anchored at the bottom.
Ryan Haskins fired SBC into an early lead, only for Nicky Pratten to equalise for the visitors, whose brave fightback was ended by Miles.
Evergreen Jon Scrase notched a first half hat-trick for Nicholas Wanderers, 4-2 winners against a much-changed Hallen Reserves, who beat Southmead in last week's GFA Senior Amateur Cup semi-final.
Hallen hit back when Wanderers' goalkeeper Richard Guest deflected the ball into his own net and Keiron Greening added a second before Gareth Clemence slotted in Wanderers' fourth.
James Shipman hit the post with a header for St Philips MAS, who did well to hold high-flying Bitton Reserves to a 0-0 draw at the Recreation Ground.
Division I pacesetters Longwell Green Reserves bounced back from last week's surprise setback against Shaftesbury Crusade with a 2-0 home win against lowly Olveston.
Both goals came in the second half. Craig Medine opened the scoring with a low drive and Mark Ashley doubled the margin.
Oldland Abbotonians Reserves lost ground following a 2-1 home defeat by revitalised Patchway Town Reserves, who trailed to a first-half strike by James Cobley.
Mark Palmer netted the equaliser and went on to complete his double with a late winner.
Seymour United also came from behind to win 2-1 at home to Totterdown United. Aaron Thomas put the visitors in front but Lee Moore equalised and Mike Davey grabbed a second-half winner for Seymour.
Hillfields OB moved up to third with a 5-0 home romp against AEK Boco, all the goals coming in a one-sided second half.
Seasoned campaigners Carl Sargent and Nathan Bell both scored twice and David Piper was also on the mark for the in-form Old Boys.
Henbury Reserves defender Jordan Dunn presented Greyfriars Athletic with an own goal but his blushes were spared as the GFA Senior Amateur Cup finalists ran out 6-1 winners.
Adam Rosser and Aaron Puchowski both struck twice for Henbury, with Andrew Cook and Craig Davis completing the rout.
Tom Williams grabbed a last- minute winner for St Mary's, who beat Frampton Athletic 3-2 at home.
Saints went 2-0 up through Tom Bircham and Ali Stewart (penalty), only to be pegged back by Yinka Brownlow and a Chris Harris penalty.
