Thousands watch Bristol fireworks display
Thousands of people filled the King George V playing fields at Downend to watch the spectacular Great Western Round Table fireworks display.
The show went off with a bang and without a hitch, and organisers said they had raised about £12,000 for charities and the community.
Andrew Simmonds, chairman of the fireworks committee, said about 14,000 people packed the site to watch the skies over Downend blaze with colour.
He said: "It was absolutely fantastic, and we have raised a huge amount of money for local good causes and charities.
"We don't know yet exactly where the money will go but we will be having a meeting to decide how it is allocated."
Mr Simmonds said that some of the money would go to the Lord Mayor's Christmas appeal, which is usually supported by the cancelled Fireworks Fiesta on the Downs.
Members of the Clifton Rotary Club and Bristol Round Table, who would normally help at the Downs display, went to help in Downend, and a donation to the Lord Mayor's appeal will be made as a way of saying thanks.
