Thornbury put an end to Students four-year unbeaten record
Fourth-from-bottom Thornbury won 9-5 against Western Counties North leaders Hartpury College to inflict the students' first league defeat since September 2004.
Heroic defence and aggressive confrontation disrupted the students in an enthralling encounter with Thornbury forced to endure 11 minutes of injury time.
Matt Belbin kicked an early penalty before the game settled down with Thornbury refusing to let the visitors get into their stride. Belbin kicked two further penalties and Thornbury led 9-0 at half time with Hartpury never looking like scoring.
But virtually all the second half took place in Thornbury territory. The defence held out until Hartpury scored an unconverted try out wide with five minutes remaining.
The students launched another attack in the dying seconds but Ben Fowkes produced a stunning tackle to save the game for Thornbury.
Bottom club Keynsham missed out on a third straight victory when Old Redcliffians snatched a 15-13 victory with a late try in the derby match at Crown Fields.
Keynsham had come from 10-0 down at the break thanks to a try from Jack Weston and a conversion and two penalties from Gaz Deere.
Reds points came from tries by Terry Hathway and Ollie Barnett with Dafydd Evans landing a penalty and a conversion.
Third-placed North Bristol were not at their best but recorded a comfortable 34-5 victory against second-from-bottom Gordon League.
Greg Welsher started the scoring with a penalty before wingers Gary Charles and Martin Harrex touched down. Welsher kicked one conversion for a 15-0 half-time lead.
Alex Cue crossed the whitewash before Nigel Smith powered over from a five-metre scrum. Welsher kicked both conversions.
Dan Snow finished the Almondsbury-based side's scoring but League scored a breakaway try with the last play of the match.
Barton Hill's game with Old Centralians was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
Meanwhile, Hornets four-match winning run came to an end when they lost 19-13 at Minehead Barbarians. Sam Lloyd-Jones slotted two penalties and converted Nick Francis' try.
