Thomas the Tank Engine will be steaming into Bitton to give rides to hundreds of his fans.

Everyone's favourite engine will be at Avon Valley Railway for the weekend to take over the regular timetable, with Sir Topham Hatt, the Fat Controller, in charge.

Days out with Thomas are among the most popular events at the railway centre, where a programme of entertainment has also been planned for the two-day visit.

Magic shows, face painting, fairground rides and a miniature steam railway will be among the other attractions.

Avon Valley Railway development manager David Cole said: "These visits are very popular. A day out with Thomas is always a day to remember as the children get to see a full-sized steam engine and ride behind their hero."

Thomas will be at Bitton on Saturday and Sunday and seats can be booked in advance by calling the station on 0117 932 5538 or visiting the railway's website.

Trains will run between 10.30am and 4.45pm both days. Visitors travelling by car should park at Brislington park and ride, where a special bus will ferry them to Bitton.
