Thieves target St Werburghs City Farm in New Year's Eve raid

A CITY farm is appealing for help following a break in where thieves made off with two popular lion-haired rabbits.

Vandals also damaged animal pens, CCTV units and security lights at the St Werbrurghs City Farm's charity centre during the attack on New Year's Eve.

A spokeswoman for the Farm, which is appealing for witnesses, said: "At approximately 9.45pm on New Year's Eve, people gained illegal entry to the Farm site.

"Animal housing was vandalised as intruders attempted to get into the pens. Two rabbits were stolen as a result. They have also attempted to break into the log cabin at the bottom of the site however entry was not gained. The cabin is used as an education room to teach adults with learning difficulties about organic gardening.

"We are truly saddened that someone would choose to do this to a charity working for the local community, and we will assist the police with their enquiries any way we can.

"We are appealing to the public to help us raise funds for a new CCTV system and security lights."

Police would like to hear from anyone who may have information or may have seen someone acting suspiciously in the area.
