Avon and Somerset police are appealing for witnesses after a man was battered around the head with a glass bottle after having his phone stolen.

The incident happened at 5pm on May 1 when the victim and two friends were sat in their car in Gladstone Street, Staple Hill.

Four men are said to have walked towards the car before one of them opened the front passenger door and threw the occupant out.

The 20-year-old was thrown against some railings and then hit around the head with a bottle, before the attackers demanded some of his belongings.

He handed over a black Sony Ericsson C902 mobile phone before the four attackers ran away in the direction of Staple Hill.

Police have described the main offender as being a white male aged between 14 and 20, with long spiky blond or ginger hair. He was thin and wearing a black hoodie and baseball cap, a blue T-shirt, blue jeans and trainers.

Police are urging anyone with any information to contact Staple Hill CID on 0845 456 7000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
