This is Bristol

WE were fortunate enough to get tickets for The Invisible Circus Carny Ville Show, at the Old Fire Station Silver Street, on April 30.

What an amazing show, a three-hour spectacular, which we were surprised had not just done a run on a London stage.

We would like to say a big thank you to all performers for a stunning show that was spell binding .

You are so lucky Bristol to have such a gem in your city centre and a theatre company of such hard working lovely young people, who could not have made us feel more welcome .

Thank you, the Invisible Circus, our very best wishes for a long, successful future to you all .

Thank you Bristol, also. What an interestingly historical, lovely, old city you have.

Two very grateful OAPs, By email.

“We can't always get E.P. so missed Tues.edition. Supposed to be a review of the Old Fire Sation 'gig' on Mon .according to previous edition. Did I miss it? Friend found out that Urban Voodoo Machine were to be at the Carny-Ville Sat.They were at the Bristol Academy in Dec.supporting the Pogues. They were amazing and now we are fans. We decided to forego our Mick Taylor (ex. Rolling Stones) concert in Frome and drive into our old home town. Urban Voodoo Machine were to appear at 11pm, so we knew we were in for a long night. (We are , like your correspondent, pensioners!)
It was one of the best evenings entertainment in our 60plus years. The dress code was 'Freaked chic' and the rather long wait outside in the cold was made bearable watching the bizarre and very different styles. Gothic, comic, Elvis was there, fishnets and long legs, young and old. Manic cyclists riding bicycles 8 feet off the ground went up & down Silver St. Inside past the bar and into the courtyard the Fireman's practice tower dominated with three green tentacles waving in the blackness. When the show beganacrobats 'flew'from the tower and a merry band of performers danced in the courtyard and I answered the jester's invitation to join. It was like being in the middle of a 'Les Mis...' performance, sometimes a bit of 'Marat Sade' too. We spotted the lead singer/songwriter of Urban Voodoo Machine and spent a long time talking (and drinking) with him and the band manager. We saw no problem, the event was well stewarded, people of all ages and inclinations were HAPPY. There was a lot of laughter. The bar was a problem as perhaps there should have been more staff. As I was the driver back to Frome, that wasn't a problem for me. We arrived home at 3am vowing to look out for the event next year. Urban Voodoo Machine were, of course, excellent but we would still have enjoyed ourselves if Val Doonican had been in his rocking chair.
Please note: That is not a suggestion for next year!”
