What a Tesco means for me

WHAT a fairy story by Brian Isles. Exactly what is a fairy story. I was a villager over 35 years ago when we had several butchers, greengrocers, bakers, two boutiques, one incorporating a record section, a shoe shop, furniture and carpet stores in Hanham, now all gone.

There was a mini market with various stalls and small garden centre now replaced by the Co-op car park. We picked blackberries and had a wildlife haven replaced by a small housing development called, I think, Ansteys Close.

With more housing being built in Whittocks Road, Abbots Road and on the Hanham Hall site, could this be the future for the Kleeneze site, hundreds more homes plus cars with no extra amenities?

Perhaps local councillors will realise not everyone is against a Tesco or similar chain. Without family and friends taking me to Kingswood for my shopping I don't know how I would manage. A Tesco would give me and many more our independence. Build it, if no one uses the store it will disappear. We are no longer a village.
