Police officers had to call a halt to a house party after dozens of teenagers gatecrashed the gathering.

Two black sacks full of alcohol were seized from the property, including bottles of wine and cider and bottles of beer and alcopops after the party in Wrington got out of hand.

Schoolgirl Helen Bos, 15, was forced to apologise to her neighbours after the small party she had organised for her friends at her home in Lawrence Road got out of hand.

The Churchill Community School, had organised the gathering on Saturday night for some of her Year 11 friends who were leaving school.

But the event soon got out of hand with reports more than 50 young people were at the property.

Police were called to the property three times during the evening following complaints about noise from neighbours.

It is understood that her brother Joshua, 20, who arrived home to find the house besieged with teenagers, called police himself after becoming concerned about the numbers of youngsters gatecrashing the party.

Officers eventually closed down the party just after midnight, emptying the scores of young people onto the street and telling them to go home.

It is understood that the schoolgirl's mother was away on holiday when the party took place.

The following morning Helen, accompanied by her brother, visited neighbours in Lawrence Road and adjoining streets to apologise to residents who may have been disturbed as a result of the house party.

She visited pensioners living in the nearby elderly people's accommodation at Hannah More Close.

Peter Patch, 70, said: "The first I heard about this party was when this young girl came round to apologise.

"I must admit I hadn't heard anything and this party hadn't disturbed me, so I didn't complain.

"I was surprised that she came round to apologise and thought it was very honourable of her."

Neighbour Helen Paynton, 41, said she saw lots of young people coming out of the house but was also not disturbed by the party and did not make a complaint.

The mum-of-one said: "I saw the police arrive and there were lots and lots of young people coming out of the house – at least 50. It did not disturb me and I went to bed as normal.

"I think it was good of her to take the time to apologise, especially to the older people who may have been disturbed.

"Her brother was genuinely upset as I think he felt responsible for what had happened."

Another resident, who did not want to be named, said: "I think the whole thing just got out of hand and the young girl didn't expect so many people to turn up. I believe a lot of them were just gatecrashers. I heard a bit of noise, but it didn't concern me.

"After all, we all have to remember that we were all young once."

When the Bristol Evening Post spoke to Helen she said: "I'm really sorry."

Joshua said: "The party just got ridiculously out of hand.

"I got home and found around 100 people in the garden and asked them to leave.

"My sister only invited around 30 friends over and it was not her fault that this happened.

"It was down to the gatecrashers that turned up.

"The police came and some of the people left, only for more to come back later.

"It was then that I called the police.

"She has done everything she can to say sorry and is sincerely apologetic about what happened."
