Police are appealing for information following a serious sexual assault on a teenager in Burnham-on-Sea.

The assault took place in the seaside resort between 10pm on December 23 and 2am on Christmas Eve.

The victim, a 17-year-old woman who is not from the area, had spent some time in the Wetherspoons public house on Pier Street during the evening and at some point after leaving was assaulted.

Afterwards she made her way to the home of someone she knew in the town and the assault was reported to police.

Detectives investigating the incident are particularly keen to speak to a group of men who were seen talking to an American woman at the Wetherspoons pub between 9.30pm and midnight.

These men may have important information which could help the investigation.
