Team Mainline win in World Carp Classi
England's Team Mainline Carpsworld clinched victory for the third year running and claimed the £10,000 first prize with 27 carp, weighing 366.2kg, in the World Carp Classi, at Lac de Madine in France.
Leading the six-man team to a clean sweep of the major prizes were Rob Tough (45) and Tom Duncan-Dunlop (36), who beat 126 pairs from 21 countries with a record-breaking 26 fish, totalling 347.5kg. Tough, told said: "The number of fish we caught and the size of them was staggering.
"We survived on 12 hours' sleep throughout the marathon non-stop competition and were totally exhausted at the end."
By the fifth day, the winning pair had successfully converted 26 of 28 runs and had established a comfortable lead with a 22-carp catch that included three 40-pounders. Kevin Hewitt, Bristol carper Mark Bartlett, Tim Paisley and Lee Jackson added the balance and the team picked up all the major prizes from the £70,000 prize table.
Tim Paisley, twice world champion and captain of Team Mainline Carpsworld said: "It's absolutely incredible to win three times in a row."
The biggest prize money went to Germany's Axel Wacker who set a new record with a 28.9kg whopper.
Terry Hawkins topped the individual scoresheet and won the Alcove AC "Blind Pairs" match single handed at Whitehouse Farm.
Hawkins poled soft pellet tight at 8 metres and into the lakeside margins of corner peg 8 for 5 carp and bits weighing 22-11-0. Andy Gard added 8-10-0 at peg 2 and the pair netted a combined 30-15-0 victory.
