Team Bath 0 Bath City 1: Team Bath head coach Andy Tilson was disconsolate after watching his side go down to defeat against rivals Bath City.

After a week in which it was announced that Team Bath were due to leave the Blue Square South at the end of the season, Tilson said: "I don't suppose we will ever beat them now."

Commenting on his side's unenviable record of never having recorded a victory over their landlords in their 10-year existence, Tilson added: "Today, I'm disappointed because we didn't create enough chances, but City were good value for their win.

"It was difficult circumstances for us, so we probably were not as bright as we normally are.

"I'm a bit shell-shocked with the decision to withdraw from the league and it has obviously affected the team.

"But it's not these lads I feel sorry for, it was the next group coming through who will not have the opportunity to play for Team Bath on a Saturday."

City started by far the brighter of the two sides and were a goal up after just six minutes.

A fine run down the right by Sekani Simpson saw the ball flash across the goal and Stuart Douglas left it for the unmarked Lewis Hogg to fire into the net from 10 yards.

City could have gone further ahead in the opening stages, with both Hogg and Darren Edwards having further chances.

Gradually, Team Bath asserted themselves and although they looked capable of catching City on the break with the pace of Takumi Ake, they did not manage to get enough shots on goal.

In the second half, Team Bath – the home side on the day – were kept in the game only by the acrobatics of goalkeeper Jake Meredith.

He made the save of the match just before the hour mark when he twisted to push a Chris Holland header round a post with an outstretched hand.

Meredith then made two further useful saves from Simpson and substitute Dave Gilroy.

Bath City manager Adie Britton was full of praise for his players after their victory.

He said: "I thought that in the first 20 minutes we were exceptional and should have scored two or three.

"Overall, I think we were the better side throughout and good value for all three points."
