Taunton's Amy misses out in WIBC final
Amy Stanton, who was hoping to bring a world bowls title home to Taunton, was beaten in the final of the WIBC Under-25 mixed pairs championship in Ayrshire.
Partnered by Irish star Paddy Burns, Stanton led well, especially in the second set, but it went down to the wire as Lisa Barrett, 17, of the host country and Guernsey's Craig Dorey edged home, 10-1, 3-9, 2-1.
It took an inch-perfect draw from Dorey to beat Stanton's shot on the first end of the tiebreak, but Burns followed suit on the second end, leaving everything hanging on the sudden death third end.
Barrett 'nailed' the jack on the decider, and Burns failed to reclaim the shot, so the Anglo-Irish pair had to settle for silver.
