Taste of South Africa On Offer After West Country Pub Take Over
A South African pub landlord is injecting a new lease of life into The Full Quart pub in Hewish by bringing a taste of his homeland to the West Country.
Peter and Allison Docherty, former managers of the Warwick Arms, Clutton, officially launched the village pub on November 20 after taking over the venue two weeks ago.

The couple wanted to meet locals and staged a taster evening where customers could indulge in the rare South African dishes now on offer.
Peter, 49, says he was thrilled to meet people and assures that while the pub has had a bumpy few months with closure and temporary managers, he and Allison are there to stay.

He said: "Our launch night was a double celebration as I turned 50 the same day and it made the day more personal sharing it with our new customers.
"We wanted people to meet us and find out what we are all about and we were delighted with the positive response on the night.
"I moved to the UK from South Africa two-years-ago and thought offering speciality dishes from my homeland would be a unique concept people in Somerset would enjoy.
"We have Boerewors sausage, steak with Monkey Gland sweet and sour BBQ sauce, Babotie spicy mince curry and meats with Sheeba hot and spicy sauce, as well as Malva apricot pudding."
Allison, 44, added: "As well as our new South African dishes and wines on offer, customers can also visit our butchery counter, the first concept of its kind in the area.
"Here they can choose the type of steak they want; we cut it to their required size and weight and then cook it to their exact requirements."

“Mmnnnn, I'll skip the Monkey Gland sauce - always too sweet for me - but the boerewors & baboetie would be very, very nice. Now where the f*** is Clutton & can I get their on my bike from Bishopston?”
