A MAJOR music event is to return to Weston-super-Mare beach this summer to replace the axed T4 on the Beach concert.

Channel 4 announced last year that it was to pull the plug on the annual beach music extravaganza (pictured) which had been a major highlight in the resort's summer calendar since 2005.

Now council leaders have revealed they are in negotiations with another major television company which wants to put on a major music event on the sands.

Big names from the music world, like those who graced the T4 stage, are being promised at the event.

The music event will take place once again on the beach with tens of thousands of party goers expected to attend.

North Somerset Council executive member for tourism Felicity Baker, said: "We have had expressions of interest from two other companies following the news that T4 on the Beach would not be taking place.

"We have been promised some top name acts and this would be a two day event at a similar time of year to when T4 took place.

"We are currently in negotiations and hope to make an announcement shortly."
