Should Mark McGhee have added another striker or midfielder to his squad before the transfer deadline passed last night?

The manager insisted that he would stick with the players he already had at his disposal once the summer-long pursuit of James Constable ended unsuccessfully.

A return to the club for former loanee Cian Bolger was the only business the manager did in the final week of the transfer window as a result – but McGhee will have those decisions questioned by supporters after Rovers went down 3-0 to Morecambe at the Memorial Stadium this afternoon.

McGhee watched his side lack creativity and a goal threat as strikes from Gary McDonald, Nick Fenton and Kevin Ellison condemned Rovers to a second successive home defeat of the season.

The manager can still operate in the loan market when that re-opens next week – but where do you think McGhee should look to strengthen?

Or was today's defeat just a bad day at the office? How far can the current squad of players take the club towards their hopes of achieving promotion?

“Well Well Well………. was it not I who posted last week how concerned I was as a season ticket holder that we have no PACE in the side? I also said in my humble opinion that we look very light weight in the middle of the park and with no ball winner think were in trouble, along with the fact that the front two have no pace or movement between them and are far to similar to be playing upfront together. I also said that as a football club we are actually going backwards and managed to get -7 hits as most of you are looking through the blue tinted glasses and wont wake up and smell the coffee that the current Bristol Rovers team are a weak division 4 side !!!! It devastates me to think what our beloved club has turned into as only a few seasons back under Trollope we looked like we had a bright future? Now we sell our best players at 350k approx and signing free agents released from championship clubs that were unable to make it into reserve squads & U21's yet expect them to come in and take us up the leagues??? Time we got real answers from the board of directors as it looks like we will have best stadium in the conference…. But we always believe :) UTG”

“Simple, we need a leader on the pitch. Definitely a midfielder and another stricker.
Something needs to be done about our fitness, over the last few seasons we have always had players overweight and unable to last the 90 minutes.”

    “@ gasincider:

    Glass Houses and all that?

Two home games, no goals, no points and 5 conceded sounds like something is fundementally wrong and the team isn't functioning at any level.

It's early days but lessons have to be learned before you're adrift of any opportunity or worse playing non league football.

Why am I thinking about comparisons with Darlington suddenly?

@ GermanExile: The reality in League's One & Two is that every managers hands are tied.”

I had you down as certs for promotion, now it is starting to look you may have a relegation battle on your hands.”

“On Lennie's advice we are ceasing having a reserve team to play in a competitive league.

On Paul's advice we are ceasing to run a scouting network and will rely on agents.

On Mark's advice we are ceasing development of a youth team and will recruit from abroad

On Nick's advice we are ceasing playing football and will concentrate on property investment”

“Dont worry Marksy you're going up are'nt you? Or you were last week. Mind you that was before you're goals for fun machine stalled against a 10 man team.

Never mind, always next year or the next or sometime never.”

“When learning my trade I was always told that preparation is everything "the more you put in the more you get out".
The summer inactivity, where the club seemed to be sat on its back side allowing our competitors to snap up the better players available is the foundation for what were seeing now.
The 4-0 drubbing suffered at Dagenham at the end of last season which was quietly swept aside is another talking point, questions need to be answered.”

“IMO on the performances I have seen this season so far, both Oxford and Morcambe, Rovers definitely need an experienced midfield player and another experienced striker. Currently they are too lightweight in midfield and Matt Harrold needs much better support up front. I do not like mentioning individual players publically, but I have NOT been impressed with the import from the team, south of the river. On what I have witnessed so far, his contribution is inadequate. I feel that Clucas and Norburn will develope into good central midfield players, together with Matt Lund, but at this stage of their respective careers, they do not have sufficient experience, to be selected in the initial lineup, on a regular basis.”
