A cancer hospital has benefited from a donation of 49 televisions to keep patients entertained during their stay.

The Friends of Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre (BHOC) have handed over the donation, worth £75,000, so people staying in the hospital's two wards have a distraction while bed-bound.

The small television screens mean patients can watch their choice of programmes through earphones.

Chairman of BHOC, John Miles, said: "It was nice to see the televisions all unpacked and patients enjoying them. It is very rewarding to raise money."

Patient Ann Hollinshead said: "I wasn't expecting television. It's marvellous. It takes your mind away from your problems. It's easy to use and the earphones mean you don't disturb anyone if you want it on late or early."
