TV adventurer Benedict Allen is leaving his "wonderful" Bristol home to be nearer to work in London.

In true adventurer style, the explorer, well known for tapping into local, indigenous knowledge beyond reliance on modern inventions, is swapping his Montpelier home in the north of the city, and uprooting his family to move closer to London where he plans to focus on various BBC projects.

The four-storey house where he now lives is in an area which has a reputation for being bohemian and 'alternative' and Allen is sad to be leaving the cultured area and his great Georgian home.

"I don't really want to leave Bristol. It's a wonderful city and I feel sad to be leaving. My wife and I feel very settled in Montpelier. It is a character filled area and full of creative people, for example our neighbour works for Aardman Animations.

"I do recall that somebody referred to the area as the frontline when we mentioned that we wanted to move here. That comment sticks with me and makes me laugh because it is not a bad place and Montpelier is very misunderstood. I wanted to live somewhere that had a bit of a buzz, and Montpelier has just that."

On the market for £649,950, the house is one of the oldest houses in Montpelier. Allen says it's an ideal haven to bring up a young family in a very hip area of the city.

"The house has made a great family property and I have enjoyed settling down here, albeit not for long. It has been great to live not too far from the countryside and we have enjoyed having a big garden. The house sits in an elevated position and overlooks the city and I can look out onto that fabulous city skyline.

"I love its huge Georgian windows, it looks like the sort of houses children draw. My wife, Lenka, loves the kitchen – it really is the heart of the home. I, however, like to escape to the study and Lenka calls it my dungeon. It is book lined and has a log fire, it is quite a masculine-feeling room, the kind of room every man should have. It's my secret hideaway.

"I have a toddler and a newborn so I haven't been doing much adventuring lately. Looking after children is a challenge in itself.

"The time has come for me to start exploring again and taking on new projects which means moving to London."

“shocking bit of advertising for someone who clearly doesn;t need help if he can afford a £650,000 house. I can't even afford to buy a house in the city I was born in. Sickening. BEP should be ashamed of themselves for this 'article'.”

“A friend of mine lived by Midland Road it was also a very creative place. One neighbour was secretary at Kall Kwik printing. The person on the other side was a signwriter.”

“Nearer to London... no thank you. Great place to visit but a dustbin of a place to live.
I lived in Woolwich for a time and if you want like for like, a lot for your money, huge potential and creative with Greenwich just minuts away by bus, I'd recommend this area. Very misunderstood and going through large scale change in time for the olympics.”

“Not much of a news story, more an advert for a house sale. If he wants to eulogise about elevated positions, Georgian windows and book lined kitchen with a log fire he should do it through the estate agents like anyone else. This is supposed to be a news site.”
