FULL-TIME: Bristol City 3, Burnley 4
CHRIS McCann broke Bristol City hearts at the death in a dramatic npower Championship encounter at Ashton Gate last night.
Substitute Paul Anderson thought he had salvaged a point for the Robins when netting a 90th minute equaliser to complete a stirring second-half comeback.
-

But McCann had other ideas, heading in at the far post from Kieran Trippier's free kick in the fifth minute of added time to send City crashing to a third defeat in four home games.
It was a cruel blow given that City had clawed back a 3-1 deficit, Sam Baldock and Anderson scoring late goals to raise the prospect of a handy point.

It can be argued that City were the better side in the first half and deserved a draw, but there can be no excuses for the defensive failings that have seen then concede 26 goals in 12 games this season.
City have now failed to win any of their last six games and this latest defeat leaves them uncomfortably adjacent to the relegation zone and desperately in need of a win when Hull visit Ashton Gate on Saturday.
Given City's defensive frailties, Charlie Austin was probably the last person they needed to run into.
The Football League's leading marksman further enhanced his growing reputation by scoring a goal in either half to take his tally to 18 in all competitions this season.
Former Swindon striker Austin displayed blistering pace to put the visitors in front after just nine minutes.
Steven Davies shot City level direct from a free kick eight minutes later but the in-form Austin restored Burnley's advantage from the penalty spot in the 59th minute after Mark Wilson handled.
Martin Paterson increased the lead two minutes later as the Clarets took control and that appeared to be that.
But this City side do not know when they are beaten and Baldock threw them a lifeline 13 minutes from time, converting his fifth goal of the campaign from the penalty spot after Michael Duff had fouled Stephen McManus.
Robins boss Derek McInnes threw on Anderson in a desperate bid to salvage a point and it paid almost instant dividends.
Indeed, Anderson could hardly have chosen a better moment to deliver his first goal in City colours.
Robins fans have seen little of the winger since he arrived from Nottingham Forest on a free transfer in the summer.
But he was in the right place at the right time to sweep the ball into the net from 10 yards after Albert Adomah's free kick had come back off an upright.
For all City's new-found attacking prowess, they must now find a way to stem the flow of goals that is threatening to undermine their campaign.
Watching from the sidelines, McInnes will have been concerned by the ease with which Austin seized upon McCann's clever flick to leave Liam Fontaine and McManus in his wake.
City defensive frailties then resurfaced with devastating effect in the final minutea s McCann was allowed a free header at the far post to deliver a second successive victory for caretaker manager Terry Pashley.
City (4-4-2): Heaton; M Wilson, Fontaine Carey (55), McManus, Foster; Adomah, Skuse, Morris, Bryan (Anderson 65); Davies (Taylor 65), Baldock.
Burnley (4-1-4-1): Grant; Trippier, Duff, Shackell, Mee; Stock; Paterson, McCann, Marney, Stanislas (Stewart 87); Austin (Vokes 90).
Referee: Lee Collins (Surrey).

“@BinRelegated Chris.
Erm, you were actually closer to the mark when you mentioned Hutchings and Burnell, though I feel you would be doing Joe a disservice.”

“"Did you really just mention LJ in the same breath as Deschamp, Makele, and Busquests.... ?"
Erm, no, do i really have to spell out what i meant? Its fairly obvious so Im sure no one is that thick that it requires further clarification?
Well....on the other hand....”

“Piledriver, to be honest, i dont really want to get into an LJ debate as that has been done to death. However, I appreciate he wasn't everyone's cup of tea but there have been alot worse such as Joe Burnell and Carl Hutchings. I thought he was better than most gave him credit and passing sideways is always useful when a team deploys wingers. He alwayd worked hard anf the gact his dad picked up wasnt actually his fault, people must remember that.
As to Scottish football, who knows what would happen if city played there but to go to Celtic, a club with large resource and fantastic history, and win is a good result no matter who you are. Im sure Barca would even agree with that”

“@BinRelegated
LJ was one of the worst midfield players I've seen at AG and his passing was primarily backwards and sideways. His selection record under anyone apart from GJ is enough evidence in itself.GJ's preference for his son over players like Hartley, Sno, Carle & Noble was one of the reasons he was sacked.
Scottish football is woeful and if City played in the SPL we'd play in Europe every year, possibly in the Champions League. That's not a relection on how good we are, by the way!”

“"Feel free to update us all on how many goals and assists he has to his name this season so we can get a true reflection of how he is getting on"
How blinkered is this statement? Why should a possesion midfielder just get judged on assist and goal scoring stats? Thats absurd! For someone to judge a player on stats alone usually shows that the person relying on such stats has poor judgement and needs something on paper to be able to have an opinion. Otherwise, armchair fans like you Raymond get stumped.
If you judge players like Deschamp, Makele, Busquests etc in such a one sided way then no wonder you have a poor understanding of the modern game and tactics. Of course, the victory at Celtic, rare or otherwise, is still a record for the club he plays for who havent won at Celtic park since 1955. Which has to be a positive however you look at it dearest Raymond.
I do get get tired to teaching you about football so please now, go away gracefully and stop making a show of yourself!”

“Regards to Lee, like I told you when he was here, one swallow doesn't make a summer.
That was a rare start for him, in a poor league.
Feel free to update us all on how many goals and assists he has to his name this season so we can get a true reflection of how he is getting on.
Checkmate.”

“Cheap words Raymond, you are getting desperate.
We obviously looked a much mire solid side as the game went on and at last had some leadership. I'm glad Derek took my advice re Albert but had he listened in full, by playing Anderson, then we probably would have won the game as that change was the compensation for dropping Albert. Of ciurse James Wilson was injured which also had a negative effectin. In short, you are chatting nonsense again and scraping the barrell for shots at me, laughable.
Two things, first, the name you want is Gary Johnson, the best city manager of a generation and also doing ok at yeovil these days with another win on Saturday which took them into the top ten.
Secondly, didnt lee also do well at Celtic park ha ha. I'm not fussed what they do but i know it annoys you so its worth a mention.”
