Swindon Town boss Maurice Malpas is to consider making one or two players on the fringes of his first team available for loan in the next few weeks.

Malpas has been unable to bolster his ranks with any loan signings following a lack of interest in some of the players listed for loan or transfer before the start of the season.

The manager, however, revealed yesterday that there had been enquiries about the availability of some of his players who have recently fell down the pecking order.

And Malpas has not ruled out temporary spells away from the County Ground for the likes of Jerel Ifil, Yinka Casal, Kevin Amankwaah or Lilian Nalis as he tries to make room for one or two new signings of his own.

He said: "A failure to get players out on loan has been one major drawback for us. The players people have shown an interest in are the ones we don't want to let out because they are in and about the first team.

"We might have to consider getting one or two of those close to the first team out to play a few games now.

"I could then maybe get one or two players in on loan to freshen things up.

"We have a list of players we are looking at and if any of our players go out on loan we will be trying to get them in."

Malpas, though, insists a continued improvement in results will be needed before players will be made available.

The manager takes his side to league leaders Scunthorpe United this afternoon on the back of two successive victories and he added: "Some people have had an opportunity in the team this season and they haven't done well. They are sat on the touchline now and it is up to them to be ready the next time they get a chance or they will go to the back of the queue again."
