Swindon Town's unbeaten run in jeopardy as Scunthorpe strike twice
Half-time: Swindon Town 0 Scunthorpe United 2. Swindon Town's recent unbeaten run looks set to be halted at four games as they trail promotion-chasing Scunthorpe by two goals at the County Ground this afternoon.
Prolific marksman Gary Hooper notched his 22nd goal of the campaign to put the Iron in front by deflecting a David Mirfin flick over the line after Town failed to deal with a Scunthorpe corner on 26 minutes.
Arsenal loanee Henri Lansbury doubled the advantage six minutes before the break with a neat angled finish after latching on to a clever Hooper pass.
Michael Timlin also had to clear a Lansbury header off the line just before Scunthorpe opened the scoring as the visitors finally found their rhythm following a shaky start.
Town began the game in cavalier fashion and should have been in front just five minutes in when Timlin saw a vicious effort from distance rattle the underside of the crossbar before striker Billy Paynter squandered a chance to convert the rebound.
Simon Cox had already forced Scunthorpe goalkeeper Joe Murphy into a fine reflex save to keep out a close-range header off the back of a pin-point Timlin free-kick delivery.
Those two missed opportunities proved to be Town's best of the opening period as Scunthorpe eventually justified their status as automatic promotion contenders after enjoying the better of an entertaining first-half.
Town boss Wilson had been forced into one change after on-loan defender Gordon Greer failed to shake off a groin injury. Haiti international Lescinel Jean-Francois was drafted in for a full debut at left-back with Jamie Vincent switched to the heart of defence.
