Swindon Town boss Danny Wilson is poised to add a fourth loan signing to his squad ahead of the transfer deadline on Thursday.

Wilson confirmed yesterday he is in talks with a Championship club over the availability of an unnamed player to join on-loan County Ground trio Owain Tudur Jones, Gordon Greer and Hal Robson-Kanu.

The manager will wait to see if his players come through their vital relegation scrap with Northampton Town tonight unscathed tonight before making a decision on whether to proceed with the acquisition.

Wilson was unwilling to identify his target, although he did reveal that the player in question was not a striker despite attempts to bolster his options in that department in recent weeks.

He said: "We are talking to a club over the availability of a player at the moment.

"We will push the button later on in the week if we feel we need to. I am not certain that we want to get the player right now but I will have to make my mind up by Wednesday or something like that.

"We will get the game out of the way on Tuesday and see how we go. If we leave Northampton without any areas of the team affected I might not do it."

Town pushed themselves two points clear of the bottom four with victory over Hereford at the County Ground on Saturday and could climb as many as four places with a win over fellow strugglers Northampton tonight.

"The lads have done well in the last couple of games but we need to carry that on," Wilson said.

"We need to get to the nine points that will take us to 50 as quickly as we can because that won't be far short of safety.

"Another three wins might be enough to do it because the margins between all the teams down there are so fine."

Defender Jamie Vincent is rated as only 50-50 to feature at Sixfields after picking up a thigh strain on Saturday.

Calf injury victim Craig Easton has returned to training but is unlikely to play any part, while Patrick Kanyuka (groin) and Jon-Paul McGovern (ankle) are still both unavailable.

Tudur Jones will miss Saturday's clash with Yeovil Town due to being part of the Wales squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Germany and Finland.
