Super Alex doubles up for Shirehampton
Gloucestershire County Youth: Shirehampton moved off the foot of the table with a 3-1 victory over Thornbury Town.
A goalless first half suggested a tight match was in store, but Shire were always in charge after taking the lead early in the second period through Luke Tanner.
They doubled their advantage on the hour thanks to Alex West's strike. And although Thornbury replied shortly afterwards through substitute Tom Webb, another West goal gave Shire a precious win.
It was West's second double in successive games after he scored both goals in a 2-2 midweek draw with local rivals Bristol Manor Farm.
West's first goal was a real beauty, while Conor Biggins netted twice for Farm in a match which saw both keepers making exceptional saves.
Yate Town moved up to third place with a convincing 7-2 home win over Cheltenham Saracens.
Town started in style with two early goals and it wasn't long before they notched a third when Nuno Felix struck a direct free-kick high to the keeper's left.
Cheltenham were on the back foot for long periods, although they twice gave themselves sniffs of a comeback by reducing the arrears to 3-1 and 4-2, before Yate's superiority in midfield saw them run away with the game.
George Brimson led the scoring with a hat-trick, while Felix (2) and Carl Lakey were also on the scoresheet. An own goal wrapped things up.
