Holidaymakers in Brean have raised more than £5,000 for the hovercraft rescue charity at Burnham-on-Sea.

Over the summer, dozens of holidaymakers at Diamond Farm Holiday Park took part in a series of events, ranging from sponsored hair colouring sessions to auctions, raffles and car boot sales to raise £5,364 for the Burnham-on-Sea Area Rescue Boat (BARB) charity.

BARB operates two rescue hovercrafts, an inshore rescue boat and a tractor. Its volunteer crews have helped and rescued more than 200 people since its foundation 17 years ago. Jayne Collins from the Diamond Farm Fundraisers said: "We've all thoroughly enjoyed this summer's fundraising and are very proud to be able to present such a large sum to such a worthwhile cause."

BARB chairman Mark Newman added: "We're hugely grateful to Diamond Farm for their continuing support of BARB. We thank them, and all the holidaymakers who have taken part in many fundraising activities over the summer period. All the money will go towards maintaining our equipment and training our volunteer crews."
