Suik kicks Winscombe to victory over Taunton
WINSCOMBE sent holders and unbeaten South West Two West leaders Taunton crashing out of the Somerset Cup after winning 3-0 on Sunday.
Full-back Robbie Suik landed the match-winning penalty on 20 minutes for the Somerset Premier outfit.
Taunton had chances to claim victory in the second half. They turned down chances for kicks at goal and also had tries disallowed for a forward pass and for putting a foot in touch.
Two games in a weekend proved to be too much for Old Redcliffians against Clevedon, who claimed their first win of the season.
The Seasiders won 12-9 thanks to Chris Cates touching down following a cross-field-kick by Steve Johnson.
Scrum-half Neil O'Rourke, 44, then crossed following a five-metre scrum. Johnson added a conversion and Liam McCreight kicked three penalties for the Reds.
Weston-super-Mare claimed the bragging rights from their derby with Hornets after a 33-0 victory.
Paul Sprague, Chris Crichton, George Sparks, Dan Fry and Dave Burge all touched down. James Mackay kicked two penalties and a conversion.
Somerset Premier side Bristol Harlequins won 25-10 at Southern Counties South outfit Ivel Barbarians with tries coming from Danny Phillips, Ross Hickery, Dean Hucker, Adam Gittens and Mark Ralph.
South West Two West side Yatton were beaten 36-0 at home to National Division Three South Bridgwater and Albion.
Keynsham won 26-9 against Chew Valley with tries coming from Lee Tattersall, Ben Moore (2), and Paul Edson, who also landed three conversions.
St Bernadette's lost 13-10 at Tor in the Somerset Vase second round.
Chris Holley kicked a penalty and converted a penalty try. Tor's winning penalty came with 10 minutes to go.
Frampton Cotterell won 48-3 in the Charles Saunders Combination Vase first round with tries coming from James Wilkinson, Robbie Wotherspoon, who also kicked five conversions and a penalty, Giles Fletcher, Alex Giles, Sam Adams (2) and Phil Murphy.
In other Combination Vase matches, Ashley Down won 60-0 at Imperia, while Nailsea and Backwell were handed a walkover by Bristol Telephones.
