Two students at City of Bristol College have won first place in the Guild of Bricklayers Competition for the South West.

Aaron Murphy and Steve Meachen came first in the junior pairs category. In a four-hour contest, Aaron and Steve built a straight wall with decorative features, competing with top students from 10 other colleges.

Tom Trevett came third in the senior category, for which he completed a curved wall with decorative set-back in the same time period.

Students on City of Bristol College's brickwork courses get first-hand experience in areas including concrete, drainage, fireplace construction, extensions and repairs to existing properties.

The Guild of Bricklayers was founded in 1932 with the aims of promoting and maintaining the highest standards of craftsmanship in brickwork.
