Students at a Portishead school have helped bury a time capsule at a new sheltered housing complex in the town.

Pupils from Portishead Primary School helped residents at the warden- controlled bungalows and apartments at Waverly Court, Forth Avenue to put items, including memorabilia and photos of Portishead, into the capsule, which they buried in the grounds.

The group of Year Four students then entertained residents with a singing and dancing display which was followed by tea and biscuits.

Waverly Court's youngest resident, 57-year-old Arthur Harris, said: "They were little darlings and it was great meeting the children and I very much enjoyed their singing."

Senior estate manager, Rowena Hindle, said: "Having only opened our doors just a few weeks ago, we are excited at the prospect of developing relationships within the local community.

"It was great to see the young people taking an interest in local history and enjoying their time with the residents."
