Lloyd Owusu insists that none of Cheltenham Town's misifiring strikers will be hiding when Brighton come to Whaddon Road tomorrow.

Robins manager Martin Allen was publicly critical of his frontmen after four relatively simple goalscoring chances went begging at Doncaster on Tuesday night.

That prolifigacy contributed to Cheltenham's downfall in a 3-0 reverse that saw the Robins fail to earn a big money FA Cup clash with Aston Villa and they will now take on fellow relegation strugglers Brighton at Whaddon Road instead.

Ashley Vincent was guilty of missing two good openings in the first-half before Elvis Hammond and Jonny Hayes added their names to the list of shame after the break.

Owusu, though, insists that recent setbacks in front of goal will not have a negative effect on whoever leads the line against the Seagulls.

He said: "We created good chances at Doncaster and it was unfortunate that we just couldn't convert them.

"That's football sometimes and we know as strikers that we have to do better.

"The gaffer was none too pleased that so many chances went begging and we have worked hard on our finishing in training since the other night.

"Any manager watching his strikers miss chances is going to get upset and frustrated.

"We are professional footballers and that (criticism) is all part and parcel of the game.

"We don't want to be missing chances – but I can tell you one thing, none of the strikers here will be hiding. You watch some centre forwards miss one (a chance) and then you never see them for the rest of the game.

"All the boys here will be getting in the positions to score even after they miss and eventually one will drop for us."

Cheltenham start the game three points shy of Micky Adams' under pressure Seagulls and just one place off the foot of the table.

Allen claims that spurned opportunities have been the story of the season so far – insisting that more belief in front of goal would see his side looking up at a possible play-off place rather than staring into the abyss of relegation.

"The strikers have to take responsibility because scoring goals is what we are here to do," Owusu agreed.

"At least the opportunities are presenting themselves and it is now just a case of sticking them in the back of the net."

Taking chances will be crucial if the Robins are to climb out of the bottom four.

So, too, will be picking up points against the other sides battling against the drop – starting against Brighton this afternoon.

"It is a massive game," Owusu said. "If they beat us they go six points clear of us.

"We have still got to play a lot of teams in the bottom half and picking up points against those around us will make or break our season.

"If we can put a run of three or four games undefeated then we will quickly climb that table. We have 22 games left and we know what we have to do."
