Striker Paul Connor aims for repeat of 'Leeds effect'
Striker Paul Connor is aiming for a repeat of the 'Leeds effect' to kick-start Cheltenham Town's season.
The Robins were the only side to do the double over Leeds last term – and those six points went a long way towards keeping them in League One.
Steven Gillespie's 86th minute winner sunk Leeds at Whaddon Road, giving former boss Keith Downing his first win as manager.
They followed that with a 2-1 win at Elland Road last March.
That was Cheltenham's last away win, and Connor said: "Going up there and winning gave us massive confidence for the run-in.
"I'm sure after last season they realise that this is a difficult place to come to.
"If the fans get behind us like they did last season there will be a great atmosphere."
Connor is certain to start the game – as he is the only recognised striker available to boss Martin Allen with Lloyd Owusu suspended, Damian Spencer injured and Stuart Fleetwood set for a loan move to Brighton having returned to Charlton.
"They will know they are in for a hard game and last year's two wins against them gave us the kick on to survive.
"If we can get a result, it will mean we can go on and approach every game with confidence."
Allen has seven players injured, Owusu banned and Leeds loanee Ian Westlake ineligible.
"I started working on the team on Wednesday, and we have had no days off this week - players or staff," he said.
"Training was brought forward half-an-hour and we have been staying longer.
"It's not a punishment, there has been no ranting and raving - it was after an open discussion and we all realise we have to do more. Everyone knows they have to give extra commitment to the cause.
"There has been a good response and despite the long hours it's been a good week.
"We all know there are good players missing this week but we all have to work harder and get a game plan together."
Drissa Diallo is back to bolster the defence after missing the game at his parent club MK Dons last weekend.
And Allen is keen to eradicate the errors which have seen the Robins leak goals recently.
"Good players don't concede goals. We have been making mistakes and errors of judgement," he said.
"The players recognise it - they have seen the videos and DVDs, but that can't be rectified on the training ground.
"We have to eradicate these errors. Losing Diallo last week was a big blow.
