Strictly Come Dancing stars get in step with Bristol children
Stars of Strictly Come Dancing put children at a Bristol school through their steps during a careers event yesterday.
Vincent Simone and Flavia Cacace gave Year 7 children a dance workshop as part of their visit to Oasis Academy Brightstowe in Shirehampton.
The pair were taking part in a business and enterprise day designed to give students an insight into different careers.
Year 7 also heard from a representative of the David Lloyd Leisure company, who spoke about how the business was founded by the British tennis player in 1980.
Each year took part in a day of activities based around subjects such as PE, science, English, maths, ICT, technology and drama.
Year 8 pupils worked on design exercises with the technology department, to teach them about the importance of teamwork and communication. They created balloon-powered vehicles inspired by the jet propelled cars that broke the land-speed record, to see why good design matters.
The science department talked to Year 9 students about the careers that scientists pursue, and helped them to design their own musical instruments. Year 10 learned about the media with the help of the English and ICT departments.
One group of students visited the Evening Post building to see how our sister paper the Western Daily Press is produced, and another group wrote and recorded podcasts using the academy's specialist ICT equipment. And the maths department arranged for the Year 11 students to take part in workshops run by insurance company Liverpool Victoria.
