TWO fishermen were forced to call for help after being cut off by the high tide in Portishead.

Crews from the Portishead and Bristol Lifeboat were called on Monday morning after the anglers contacted the coastguard saying they had become stranded by Portishead Pier.

When crews arrived they found the men standing on a bollard, surrounded by water, half way along the pier.

Lifeboat Trust spokesman, Dave Herbert, said: "We offered to evacuate the fishermen, but as it was high tide the men opted to continue fishing."
