Stolen cars pair told to repay cash
A CROOKED second-hand motor dealer and a customer who knowingly received stolen cars have been ordered to hand over almost £100,000 proceeds of crime.
Jordan Franklin, 24, of Uplands Road, Saltford, was sentenced to 18 months' jail in March for conspiracy to handle stolen vehicles.
The Post reported that Franklin, who ran a business called Easy Motors from an address in Mangotsfield, sold a Porsche Cayenne, two Mini Coopers and a Mercedes CLK, which had been stolen during burglaries at homes in Bristol and Wiltshire, to Alexander Archer, 30, of Redland Road, Redland.
Archer was sentenced to a nine-month suspended prison term for handling stolen vehicles.
The sentencing hearing was told Franklin acquired the cars within hours of them being stolen and arranged false number plates for them.
This week a judge at Bristol Crown Court ordered Franklin to pay £39,300 and Archer £59,700, the amount each had gained from their crimes.
They must pay up within six months or face a further 18-month prison term and will still owe the full amount on their release.
A police spokesman said: "These orders should send out a clear warning to criminals that crime does not pay."
