STEVE Kirby led the plaudits for returning England star Craig Kieswetter as he turned in a man-of-the-match display in Somerset's seven-wicket Friends Life t20 win at Northampton.

England one-day wicketkeeper Kieswetter returned to the Somerset ranks for last night's game at Wantage Road, before heading off to rejoin the England squad and scored 51 off 35 balls as his side won with more than six overs to spare.

Kirby and his fellow bowlers laid the platform for such a dominant victory, limiting Northants to 115-6, with the seamer taking 2-14, Arul Suppiah 2-10 and George Dockrell 2-24.

Then it was Kieswetter and Richard Levi's turn to shine. The former hit a six and six fours, while his old school friend from South Africa set the tone with a blistering 17-ball 35, which included four sixes and a couple of fours.

Kirby said: "Craig Kieswetter came back in and showed what class he has got. To come and do that showed the true quality of him as an individual.

"He plays the same game of cricket, whether he's playing for England or Somerset, and that's why he's as good as he is.

"We love having him back – but saying that, we're very powerful right down to eight or nine."

Somerset have now won all four matches they have completed in this season's Midlands/Wales/West Group, with the other two rained off.

"We're picking up momentum just at the right stage," said Kirby.
