Steve Howell edges out Paul Chapman to win Shiplate Farm's Sunday Open
CONTESTANTS of Shiplate Farm's Sunday Open had to rely on silverfish for sport when cold winds and short, sharp showers of icy snow put the carp down.
Top of a close set of weights was Steve Howell, who poled pinkie over the same at 13 metres centre off peg one and topped both categories with 23-14-0 of mostly skimmers.
Second was Paul Chapman, who fished the same at peg four for a comparable 20-8-0, as did Tim Lewis, who finished third and won the silverfish pools money on default with a 20-3-0 catch from peg six.
Overall: 1, Steve Howell 23-14-0, peg 1a; 2, Paul Chapman 20-8-0, peg 4.

A bitterly cold wind, coupled with a severe drop in water temperatures, put the fish off feeding and weights suffered in the Windmill Sunday Open, fished at Henfield.
Top of a half-decent set of weights was Bill Ferris, who fished a feeder and maggot close to the island off peg ten and weighed in a three-carp catch worth 14-14-0.
Local expert Steve Dawson used the same tactics at peg two and weighed in a 12-14-0 mixed bag.
Result: 1, Bill Ferris 14-14-0, peg 10; 2, Steve Dawson 12-14-0, peg 2; 3, John Clark 11-8-0, peg 26.
A warm spell of weather raised catch weights in the Cadbury Angling 'Silverfish Only' Open, fished on an in-form Main Lake at Plantation Fishery, Kingston Seymour.
Winner Andy Hembrow long-poled soft pellet off peg seven and weighed in a superb 34-10-0 of mostly skimmers from peg seven, while South West Maver Representative Steve Mayo fished the same tactics at peg five for a similar 21-4-0.
Overall: 1, Andy Hembrow 34-10-0 , peg 7; 2, Steve Mayo (Maver) 21-4-0, peg 5; 3, Simon Carvallo 14-0-0, peg 12.

Cold winds blowing across Avalon Fishery's Match Lake put the fish off feeding and weights suffered in the Carpenters Arms AC match at West Hay, near Glastonbury.
Top of a low-weight scoresheet was Steve Vowles, who used straight lead tactics with an 8mm banded pellet to tempt a seven-carp catch totalling 28-4-0 from peg 11.

A sweetcorn bait poled at four metres into the right-hand margins of peg 18 came up with a superb 62-8-0 win for Chris Szakacs in the Bristol PSV AC match, fished on Plantation Fishery's Main Lake at Kingston Seymour.
Bob Warren headed the silverfish list with a 10-2-0 mixed bag. He poled caster over the same down the edge of peg eight and included a specimen 2lb bonus perch in his winning catch.

A short, 30-minute ice breaking session preceded this week's Tuesday Tenner Open, fished on Acorn's Paddock at Kingston Seymour.
However, the thin, remaining covering soon melted and the superbly-stocked match lake came up with a great result for the 20 contestants.
The winner was local rod Ian Cole, who poled maggot both long and short off point peg five and brought 49-0-0 of mostly carp, weighing between 2-5lb, to the scales. The heaviest catch of silverfish was taken by Andy Gard.
