Stephen Pearson eyes more goals for Bristol City in coming season
Stephen Pearson has stated his desire to score more goals after committing his long-term future to Bristol City.
Having signed a two-year contract at Ashton Gate, the Scot wants to improve upon a record that saw him hit the net on three occasions in 28 starts last season.

Signed on loan from Derby in October before agreeing a short-term contract, Pearson scored in wins over Burnley and Southampton and netted a spectacular effort in a 2-2 draw against Birmingham to help the Robins retain their Championship status.
Although his overall level of performance was sufficient to earn him a new deal, the former Celtic schemer feels he must do better in and around the opposition penalty area.

"You can never relax in football and, even though I've got a two-year deal, I feel I have to prove myself," said Pearson.
"I would like to score more goals. That is key for me. I like to get into the box and get as many opportunities as I can.
"I could have had a lot more goals last season, but it was not to be. With better finishing, hopefully, I can bang a few more goals in next season.
"I'm married now and it is nice to have that bit of security that a two-year deal gives you, but I know I can do better. I would love to be a first-team regular next season, but it is up to me to prove I'm good enough for that. It is a fresh start for all of us and pre-season is going to be an important time."
Pearson had offers from a number of other clubs, including Millwall, but cited his relationship with City manager Derek McInnes as the main reason behind his decision to stay in Bristol.
He said: "I had a few other options, but I really enjoyed working for the manager and the club. It's a good city and there's a really good bunch of lads, so this club ticked all the right boxes.
"Derek McInnes was also a midfielder and it helps having a manager who played in a similar role. He is a really good manager and I've enjoyed working with him."
McInnes said of Pearson: "He had other offers, but he loves playing for the club and we enjoy working with him.
"Sometimes you can get ahead of other teams when you've had the benefit of working with them, so I was always confident of getting it done."
Admission at Taunton Town will remain frozen at 2007 prices. Supporters can make a saving of £20 if buying season tickets before the end of July.

“AussieGeorge
Point taken about caution entering the transfer market. But we should remember that:
a) the squad was woefully inadequate to fully compete in the Championship last season;
b) those players deemed inadequate have gone, thereby releasing funds to strengthen the squad (or so we were told);
c) so, surely there must be something in the petty-cash box for a couple of players?
And if SL and DM's recent tête-a-tete was intended to discuss a transfer budget and identify players we need, why, apart from Morris (and possibly Keogh), is it so quiet?
Just hope matters are happening behind the scenes. Or perhaps we'll wait to see how we fare come the new season before we buy...say, November?”

“It's good to see Stephen feels that way about the Club & DM but it worries me that we aren't seeing more names.
I suppose it's an indication of how limited & careful spending is to be from now on.”

“I'm delighted that one member of the squad is "eyeing" the goal. It would help if SOMEBODY in the team can deliver more than a paltry 8 goals next season. How I long for the days of the Thorpedo and Bob Taylor...sigh...
Hopefully we won't sign another "Liam Robinson"”
