Otis Ferry yesterday failed in his last-ditch bid to avoid spending Christmas behind bars.

The countryside campaigner, 25, son of Roxy Music singer Bryan Ferry, has spent three months on remand in HMP Gloucester and will be there for the festive season and into the new year.

He was dramatically arrested by police the day after his robbery trial was adjourned in September over allegations he interfered with a key witness.

Ferry was not present at Gloucester Crown Court yesterday as his counsel made a final attempt to have him released on bail before Christmas.

But Judge Mark Horton refused bail after two hours of deliberation – the fourth time his bail application has been declined.

Ferry, a former pupil at Marlborough College, Wiltshire, will remain in prison until his trial for alleged witness 'nobbling', robbery and assault in March next year.

He was on trial accused of robbing a hunt monitor and assaulting another on November 21 last year when the proceedings were dramatically halted.

The incident is alleged to have taken place while Ferry was with the Heythrop Hunt.

Ferry, of Easton Mascot, Shropshire, was arrested for allegedly phoning witness David Hodgkiss, his former groomsman, in a bid to prevent him taking the stand.

He has previously pleaded not guilty to two alleged offences of perverting the course of justice in September this year.

Yesterday, his mother, former model Lucy Helmore, fled the closed court hearing in floods of tears after Judge Horton made his ruling.

Ferry's dad Bryan, who is separated from Ms Helmore, 48, famously visited his son in prison last month but was not in court for the lengthy hearing.

Otis, real names Charles, will now stand trial for robbery, assault trial and two counts of perverting the course of justice at Gloucester Crown Court on March 9.

There will be a further hearing on January 15 at Gloucester Crown Court, where another bail application is expected to be lodged.

Despite applying for bail for the latest time, iIn a letter to Horn & Hound magazine several months ago, while on remand, Ferry wrote: "Contrary to popular belief, prison life is not tough, and in this namby-pamby society, we even get our own televisions."

“If he thinks prison is alright why does he want to come out. He can watch the Queens speach on his telly and enjoy a turkey dinner, which is a damn site more than a lot of law abiding people in this country will have.”
