The man who played Darth Vader will return to his former Southmead home as part of a visit to Bristol.

Dave Prowse, who was also the Green Cross Code man, will go back to Ambleside Avenue before helping to officially open the new changing rooms at Southmead Rugby Club.

He will be joined by his brother, ex-Bristol Rugby player Bob.

The rugby club's new changing rooms were built at their Greenway Centre base after the club received grants from the Rugby Football Union and other organisations, along with fundraising.

They are hosting a match featuring former international and Bristol players as part of the commemorations, along with a dinner.

Marion Williams, 61, a University of the West of England lab technician, lives in the Prowses' former home, and is looking forward to meeting the brothers.

She said: "It is great to have the chance to meet Dave Prowse. I was a Star Wars fan many years ago."

After the Prowses have visited their old home Richard Appleby, vice-president of the RFU, will officially open the club and cut the tape.

Club secretary Mike Pierce MBE, said: "It is a well known fact that Southmead has a documented history of poverty and deprivation and has experienced major drug and alcohol related problems over the years, along with its fair share of domestic abuse issues and so on.

"What is rarely, if ever shown is the tremendous spirit, dogged determination and sheer willingness of the majority of those people who live there to pick themselves up and carry on. This type of attitude is what you will find all over, including the rugby football club.

"Throughout each week and in particular on match days it is not unusual to see generations of family members at the club.

"The club has the enviable tag of being a good old-fashioned rugby football club."

There will be a juniors match at 11am, and The Peelers international rugby match, including appearances from Gareth Llewellyn, Dave Hilton, Graeme Beveridge, Luke Nabaro and Craig Short will start at 2.15pm.

There will be a dinner at 5pm and tickets are £15 for members and £20 for non-members.

Tickets for just the bar and band, Hooper, are £5, with entry after 8pm.
