Star Man awards bring out the best in our youngsters

MORE than 300 players, family and friends gathered at the Fry Club for the annual Post junior Star Man awards.

The youngsters, all of whom had been nominated from games watched by Post reporters over the course of the 2011-12 season, enjoyed meeting former Bristol City midfielder Scott Murray, who was guest of honour for the evening.

A total of 31 players – and 11 girls teams – received their awards from Murray who congratulated every one of them for winning the man of the match of their particular game.

He said: "These youngsters have done brilliantly to win these awards and I hope that they never forget the feeling of being a winner.

The Post editor, Mike Norton, said: "It is great to be able to recognise the achievements of these youngsters.

"The turnout shows just how important these awards are viewed by the players, family and clubs and it is great to see."
