Some big names are in town for this fundraiser for Bristol's much-loved, annual Slapstick Festival of silent and visual screen comedy.

Rory Bremner, Graeme Garden, Barry Cryer and Arthur Smith are among the household names and Radio 4 regulars lining up on the night.

They're joined by Marcus Brigstocke, a sharp-witted, cerebral comedian who cut his comic teeth right here in Bristol, and the engaging Lucy Porter, pictured, whose frequently earthy material belies her sweet, innocent demeanour.

Stand-Up For Slapstick Sunday, June 24, Colston Hall, Bristol. See listings for details.

NEXT WEEK: Rhys Darby – cult comic and star of oddball TV comedy Flight of the Conchords – is in town

Adecent-looking quartet of comics including Rhodri Rhys, a wry Welshman who's made the move from (yes!) chartered surveying to stand-up.

Joining him on the bill are Paddy Lennox, a livewire and sporadically amusing Ulsterman; emerging comedienne Allyson Smith; and Scottish-Italian comic/impressionist Geoff Boyz.

Jongleurs Comedy Club June 22-23, above Eton Bar, Bristol. See listings for details.

This fortnightly live comedy night, at the cosy Wardrobe Theatre, is always worth a look – and not just because it'll set you back a mere £3 to get in.

No, there's also the nice mix of local, breakthrough and established comics on the bill, not to mention the frisson of anticipation lest a big name look in – the likes of Jon Richardson, pictured, and Russell Howard have turned up in the not-too-distant past.

Comedy at the Wardrobe June 28, The Wardrobe Theatre, Bristol. See listings for details.
